The two-day cross visit near Vienna was organised by FiBL Austria and brought together farmers and advisors from several European countries. It offered participants the chance to observe a range of innovative organic practices and systems on local farms, from structured crop rotations to integrated agroforestry and water-efficient approaches.

In the video, John Noonan, Organic Advisor with Teagasc, and Una Wycherley, organic farmer, emphasise how valuable it was to see different farming models in action and openly discuss both challenges and successes with peers from other countries. According to their comments, these conversations helped them gain fresh perspectives on managing organic systems, particularly around adapting practices to suit diverse climates and farming contexts. They highlighted that this exchange of ideas is one of the biggest benefits of participating in events like this.

Both speakers also underline the importance of building personal networks: connecting with farmers and advisors beyond national boundaries not only broadens individual know-how but creates opportunities for long-term collaboration and mutual support. They noted that the friendships and contacts made during the Austrian visit will continue to be a resource that they can bring back home — enriching discussions in local farming communities and inspiring new approaches on their own farms.

By capturing these first-hand experiences, the Teagasc video highlights how the OH-FINE cross visits help transform shared learning into concrete ideas and actions that extend well beyond the event itself — strengthening organic farming networks across Europe.
