BIOGREENET

BIOGREENET, Boosting Innovation in Organic Greenhouses via Stronger Networks, is a European initiative that strengthens organic greenhouse production by improving knowledge exchange, fostering innovation and supporting producers and advisors. Organic greenhouse production has high potential but remains limited because it is technically complex, knowledge-intensive and shaped by regional conditions, infrastructure costs and restricted input options. Key challenges include soil health, biodiversity, pest management, digitalisation and the fragmented transfer of practical know-how.

The project brings together 16 partners from ten countries and is funded by the European Union and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). BIOGREENET collects, evaluates, adapts and disseminates best practices for organic greenhouse systems through a practical, transdisciplinary approach. Under the guidance of local project partners, promising practices are assessed from technical, social, economic and environmental perspectives and further developed into accessible training and advisory materials.

The project improves access to knowledge, promotes digital tools, supports the adoption of innovations and strengthens collaboration among farmers, advisors, researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders. By reinforcing local and EU-wide Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS), BIOGREENET helps create more resilient, competitive and sustainable organic greenhouse production. More than 3,000 producers and advisors are expected to engage through digital platforms and workshops, enabling the wider uptake of proven organic practices across and beyond the EU.

Collaboration with OH-FINE

The partnership between BIOGREENET and OH-FINE combines the strengths of both projects to advance sustainable farming systems.

Key elements of collaboration:

• Shared contacts from cross visits and Organic Greenhouse Producer networks.
• Use and promotion of the OH-FINE Organic Farming Compass.
• Feeding the Organic Farming Compass with information of Biogreenet.
• Sharing of projects outputs with participants of other project (practice abstracts, videos …).
• Participating together in sector events for enhanced visibility and greater impact.

The collaboration creates a unified approach to sustainable agriculture, thereby boosting the scalability, coherence, and enduring impact of both projects.
